Tour code: SBL7A

Day 1: Sai Gon – Cai Be – Vinh Long – Long Xuyen – Chau Doc (Lunch included)
We depart at 8:00am and head south to the river town of Cai Be, a rural district of Tien Giang province in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. Arriving at around 10:30am, we board our motorized boat to journey through Cai Be. Here, we will experience how life functions on the delta, as we view the intricacies of commerce – how merchants purchase products from local farmers. During our cruise the town’s secluded canals, we will stop at some local factories to see locals making pop rice cakes, rice paper cakes, coconut candies and products from coconut trees. We also enjoy sampan ride and pedal down narrow natural waterways. Stopping at a local home to try seasonal fruits (such as longan, pineapple, watermelon, rambutan, papaya, jackfruit etc…). Continue walking through the village to get back to our boat which is waiting to bring us to another local house for lunch served with many Vietnamese’s delicious dishes.
We board the boat again to keep on to the quay in Vinh Long province. We will transfer by car to Long Xuyen and on to Chau Doc.
Overnight in Chau Doc.

Day 2: Chau Doc to Can Tho (Breakfast included)
Up early for a cruise through the floating village with tons and tons of fish farmed underneath hundreds of shelters. Continue the boat cruise to Da Phuoc, a Muslim Cham village across the river on Con Tien island from Chau Doc’s center. Here, discover the village with its famous Mosque and watch the locals go about their traditional weaving.

Then we hike up to the sacred Sam Mountain with its panoramic view over the vast plains into Cambodia. Our guide will tell you the history of VinhTe canal which connected HaTien to ChauDoc. This canal brings fresh water from the Bassac river into the immense delta area,  so it plays an important role as a border canal between Vietnam and Cambodia. Descending down Sam mountain, we will see the famous Lady Chua Xu Temple (1820) and Thoai Ngoc Hau tomb. Thoai Ngoc Hau was a Vietnamese military administrator of the Nguyễn dynasty who conducted the digging of ThoaiHa (1818) and VinhTe canal (1819).

We keep moving to Cambodia border area, visit Tra Su mangrove forest, an ideal ecotourism site. The second boat trip through Tra Su nature reserve will show you a unique natural habitat conservation site of the wetland ecosystem in the Mekong delta. Tra Su is home of 140 species of plants and 70 of birds, cajeput trees are green all year round.

Lunch break at a local place.

In the afternoon, we travel to Can Tho, with a stop  to visit Binh Thuy community temple, built in 1783 with recently renovated but remained traditional features of Southern style. Overnight in Can Tho.

Day 3: Can Tho – Sai Gon (Breakfast included)
An early start for a boat trip to Cai Rang floating market, the largest wholesale market in the Mekong Delta where hundreds of local people trade on the river before heading up a quiet canal for more cruising along winding waterways.

Our van will pick us up and transfer us to Vinh Long. There is a scenic beauty of Can Tho suspension bridge over “Hau” / Tonle Bassac river stretching northwest to Cambodia. We will visit Phu Ly pagoda. It is one of the ancient Khmer pagodas in Vinh Long province. The pagoda was built in 1672, great combination of Indian, Thai and Cambodia architecture. There are Khmer classes for young teachers and children in the village. We will walk around the village and the rice paddies in the surrounding of the pagoda.

We keep on driving through the rice fields in Ben Luc to return to Saigon. If the sunset light is still on the field, and you are interested in rice growing technique? Our guide will show you different ways of rice planting and you may have a chat with locals all about the rice.Tour ends in Saigon.
