Day 1: Sagon to CaiBe to CanTho (L)
We depart at 8:00am and head south to the river town of Cai Be, a rural district of Tien Giang province in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. Arriving at around 10:30am, we board our motorized boat to journey through Cai Be floating market. Here, we will experience how life functions on the delta, as we view the intricacies of commerce – how merchants purchase products from local farmers. As you cruise by CaiBe bridge, you will see on the packaging shop that all the boat with fruits landing here. These boxes will be load up to trucks for transport up north to many provinces.
During our cruise the town’s secluded canals, we will stop at some local factories to see locals making pop rice cakes, rice paper cakes, coconut candies and products from coconut trees. We also enjoy sampan ride and pedal down narrow natural waterways. Stopping at a local home to try seasonal fruits (such as longan, pineapple, watermelon, rambutan, papaya, jackfruit etc…). Continue walking through the village to get back to our boat which is waiting to bring us to another local house for lunch served with many Vietnamese’s delicious dishes.
Time to relax, then we board the boat again to keep on to the quay in Vinh Long province. Transfer by car to Can Tho, passing Can Tho bridge, a cable-stayed bridge over the Hau (Bassac) river. Overnight in Can Tho.
Day 2: CanTho to Saigon (B)
An early start for a boat trip to Cai Rang floating market, the largest wholesale market in the Mekong Delta. It starts at 5:00am and runs until midday. Of course now this market is not crowded and busy as it was before, but still interesting experience for people who do not live in Mekong delta area. Then we have a long distance cruise to Phong Dien in winding natural waterways. Our guide will stop in between for you to walk on a quiet country road to take in the magnificent scenery, see several kinds of fruit tree and get close to the locals as they go about their daily routine.
Our van pick us up and transfer to VinhLong. We will visit PhuLy pagoda. It is one of the ancient Khmer pagodas in Vinh Long province. The pagoda was built in 1672, great combination of Indian, Thai and Cambodia architecture. There are Khmer classes for young teachers and children in the village. We will walk around the village and the rice paddies in the surrounding of the pagoda.
We keep on driving through the rice fields in Ben Luc to return to Saigon. If the sunset light is still on the field, and you are interested in rice growing technique? Our guide will show you different ways of rice planting and you may have a chat with locals all about the rice.Tour ends in Saigon.

Mekong delta tours CanTho – explore natural waterways after visiting CaiRang floating market
Depending on the mekong river tide, we choose several waterways to cruise, clip below is a special waterways that require “not too high, not too low” tide to cruise in. And the boat roof should be foldable to move through local concrete bridge of bamboo bridge. Would you like to try walking over a local wooden bamboo bridge, let us know. It’s quite a balance skill.

There are a lot of local primary or high schools in the mekong delta. Therefore, we will stop and spend relaxing time with kids.
Chat and have a good time with locals, showing them some of your photos would be nice to begin.
Firstly, garden construction technique is quite interesting to explore.
Secondly, splitting ditches and raised ground level: In the wild nature, Mekong delta is low land often face to flooding during the rainy season. Thirdly, the farmer have to consider :
– Thickness of the surface layer, because usually high acid Ph<7 stored below (alum earth, Thionic Fluvisols soil).
– flooding during the rainy season, water shortages in the dry season.
Mooreover, when establishing a garden, the land must have trench and raised ground level in order to:
– Avoid surface flooding.
– Higher water level to lower level routine, depending on the river tide.
– Add shrimp or fish in garden.
– Size of trench: depending on the following factors: height of flood peak normally end of October, thickness of the surface layer, the depth of the alum earth floor, type of fruit to grow in the garden etc…
