Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau – trek to Pu Luong nature reserve (~ 140 km & ~ 5 hour walk)
Depart from Hanoi at 07:00 am, we head to Mai Chau. After two hours up into the mountain, we arrive in Mai Chau and start our Mai Chau trek to Pu Luong nature reserve. Starting at Ton village in Nam Son commune, we start to trek down the forest. The highlight on this walk is experiencing the beauty of Pu luong Nature Reserve, the everyday life and culture of the white Thai people. We have pinic lunch in forest and continue a nice route down to Hin village. The host family welcome us, free time to take rest, have shower then a traditional dinner and stay the night. ( Lunch, Dinner).
Day 2: Pu Luong Trek. We trek to Nua and Kho Muong villages (4.5 to 5 hours walk).
After breakfast, we start for a harder full day of hiking. About 4 km to Nua village, there is a nice cool stream for you to take rest from the heat of the day before starting our wonderful trekking with more challenges. The trekking becomes more remote yet one is never far from a villager tending fields, passing steep limestone mountain, rain forest inside the Pu Luong Nature Reserve to the village. After a rough trek, the picnic lunch will be served at Pon village.
We continue with some steeps climbs, more stream crossings and through valley we arrival in Kho Muong village where we will spend our second night in a typical Thai eco – stilt house (set up by FFI – Flora and Fauna Internationa). Time to relax, shower and enjoy dinner. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 3: Kho Muong to Mai Chau.
Get up and observe or even take part in your host familys activities in the morning because here daily life starts early, take an opportunity to stroll around the village before having Thai style breakfast.
We then take a further walk to the main road. Here our driver will pick us up back to Mai Chau for lunch. Free time for walking around the village, last shopping Thai handicrafts, then we transfer back to Hanoi. (Breakfast, lunch).
